If you are trying to create the perfect sleep zone, then blocking out light might be on your to-do list. And one of the easiest ways to do that is with a good sleep mask. This applies for both sleeping at home and while traveling. Unfortunately, finding the best sleeping mask is not as easy as you might think. Not only are there lots of different styles, models and designs, it is also challenging just to get a comfortable sleep mask that doesn’t annoy you or, worse, disrupt your sleep.

After living in an apartment that got a lot of light in the bedroom from the outside street lights, I got my first eye mask for sleeping. At the time, I did not really know much about them and just bought the first on that I found. That was a big mistake – it was super cheap and not comfortable. But, I lived with this because I was stubborn. After a while though I had to get serious about it since I was planning a lot of upcoming travel and I needed a really good travel eye mask since hotels often have the worst curtains when it comes to blocking out light. After checking out a few different options, including some of the top rated sleep masks for the money, I ended up coming up with a few eye masks that I think are better then rest. Check out my reviews below if you are in the market for the best eye masks for sleeping or skip over to my sleep mask buying guide.
Dream Essentials Escape Luxury Travel Sleep Mask Review
I really enjoy this particular sleep mask because it does a great job of blocking out the light that can creep in around your nose when you’re wearing one of these. Another feature of this one that I really like is that it has eye cavities built in so that you don’t have to deal with any pressure on your eyelids while you are wearing it.
In my opinion, this is probably the best sleep mask for travel because it is comfortable and blocks out virtually all outside light. Perfect for sleeping in hotels, on trains and on airplanes.
Taking this eye mask with you when you travel is super easy since it comes with it’s own little carrying bag. That is great because it helps keep the mask clean, which is important to me since it goes on my face.
The strap on this one is adjustable instead of just being elastic, which is awesome. It definitely helps to make it more comfortable. One thing to note is that the strap is velcro and it fastens on the side. If you are looking for a good sleep mask for side sleepers, do not let that deter you. I sleep on my side 98% of the time and this is perfectly comfortable for me.
A cool bonus feature of this good night sleep mask is that it comes with a pair of ear plugs – perfect for people who travel with this!

I am not gonna lie, when I first saw this eye mask I had a bit of a laugh. I mean, it looks really weird, right? I mean, it almost looks like one of those Venetian masks, except there are no holes for eyes. Well, don’t let the funny look of this one stop you from trying it out. Why not?
Because this is probably the best cheap sleep mask that I have seen on the market. You seriously get a lot of value for the money when you buy this one right here.
As you can see in the photo, this cheap eye mask comes with ear plugs and a travel pouch, just like the luxury eye mask above.
It is a very slim eye mask, with eye cavities that are great for keeping the pressure off your eyelids. As you might have guessed, it does not block the light as well as the Dream Essentials Escape Luxury Travel Sleep Mask listed above. But, with a little moving it around once you get in bed, you can make it work and it does block most of the light.
I like to take this one with me on long travel trips since it is such a compact travel eye mask, and it is easy to wash. So, that is something to keep in mind if you’re looking for a good, cheap eye mask for sleeping on planes or in hotels. Plus, this one is definitely better at blocking light than the Lewis N. Clark Luggage Comfort travel eye mask, so keep that in mind if you’re considering the Lewis and Clark model.
One thing that I dislike about this one is that the strap is elastic. For me, this isn’t the most comfortable strap, but it is better than most out there. At this low price though, it’s definitely worth trying out.
Sleep Master Sleep Mask Review
Probably my top pick for the most comfortable sleep mask for the money is the Sleep Master Sleep Mask. This thing is no joke – it is serious about blocking out all the light and keeping you super comfortable while it does its thing.
You will notice right away that this one is different from all the others. The velcro strap that goes around your head is thicker in width and is the most comfortable of all the models out there right now. Even better for me, this is a sleep mask that keeps your ears warm! I really struggle with cold ears in the winter and I love that this eye mask covers the ears.
Now, this one does have a retail price that is just a little higher than the other models, but I think you get a much better product. So, I think it’s definitely worth the extra cost.
The only thing that I dislike about this mask is that it doesn’t have any eye cavities built into it. So, it does rest on your eyelids. But as long as you don’t have the strap too tight, you shouldn’t feel any pressure. As a side sleeper, I find this to be the best sleep mask for side sleepers,
Trust me – this is the very best sleep mask that you will ever buy. And after checking with some of my male friends, they all agree that this is the best sleep mask for men, so keep that in mind if you’re shopping for guys.
